    COURSES:

Right now we are wrapping up the July open water class. The students have successfully completed their classroom and pool sessions and are getting ready to go out into the quarry. Now onto more fun for them: seeing go fast boats, toilet, fish, and eels! Our August class is getting ready to start on the 7th. If you know anyone who is interested in getting certified, there are spots open in the September class.

Mike recently took a group of students off to lovely Lake Rawlings so they could become advanced open water certified. These lucky divers did 5 dives over the course of 2 days. Congratulations to the following people for finishing this class: Kenneth Moyer Jr, Margaret Smith, Alexandria Carrier, Eric Nelson, Jennifer Nelson, Angela Wilhelm, Brian Miniuk, Mary Fry, Eric Higgins, Zack Rozga, Jason Herman, Bob Zdzinicki, and Richard Capparra. For those of you who have the open water certification, but are looking to further scuba diving education - keep an eye out for the next class. It costs $290 to take the class. For those divers who have not only their open water but the advanced certification as well, we have courses for you too.

Tim is gearing up for the rescue diver course coming up in August. This class prepares you for emergencies you might encounter while diving. There is a prerequisite to this course: CPR and first aid (emergency first responder (EFR)). We will be offering EFR on August 9th and 10th; it costs $118. The rescue diver course is split up into three different sections: book, pool, and quarry. The book section will be held on the 11th of August, the pool section will be on the 15th of August, and lastly the quarry section will be on the 22nd of August. Rescue diver class costs $407. Interested? Just let us know if we can answer any of your questions or sign you up!
Interested in doing a specialty course? This month's PADI specialty course is wreck diving. We can head out to Rappahannock Del Sol to wreck dive the go fast boat, bus, or any of the other "toys" sitting on the bottom during a weekend in August. PADI society members who take the wreck diving course during the month of August will be eligible for a free wreck diving hat.

CONGRATULATIONS to Andrea Smith, Jason Herman, Charles Carley, Wilson Earman, Stephaine Pooler, Shane Brockway, Michelle Carley , Adrianne Alvarez for successfully completing the June open water course. Also, congratulations to Zack Rozga and Dave Dubey for successfully completing the equipment specialty course.

TRAVEL:

Roatan - In May, Ralph took a group of divers down to Roatan. He and the other divers that went had an amazing time. We've got video footage of a dive playing in the Shack; come check it out if you have yet to see all the beauty Roatan has to offer. Sign up early for the 2011 trip; I'm sure there will be repeat divers from this last trip wanting to get in on the fun again.

Fiji - Ralph is getting ready to go on another trip in August to this year's wild card pick, Fiji. To those divers going on this trip with him, have a wonderful time! The wild card pick for 2011 is still up in the air. Have a place you are just dying to go to? Email us and with enough interest in the destination, we will book it for our fourth trip.

Belieze - Think you'll feel the winter blues in November? Beat the blues with Tim and Ralph by joining them in Ambergris Caye. This will be the last trip of the 2010 year. They are going down 13th-20th of November 2010. A down payment of $500 will hold your spot. The price, $2295, includes airfare from Richmond to Belize City and then from Belize City to Ambergris Caye. Interested in going and have questions? Give us a call and we will be happy to answer them! We are putting together a waiting list for this trip. Let us know if you want to get on it.

Bonaire - The 2011 trip to Bonaire (first trip of the New Year) is tentatively scheduled for 25th of February 2011 to 7th of March 2011. Bonaire is packed full of diving. This beautiful place offers great shore diving on top of boat diving. Like all the rest, if you have questions give us a call.

RETAIL:

Have you stopped by the store lately to peruse some of our new and exciting equipment? Well, the following are just a few of the new items we are now carrying.

  • ZUMA: Aqua Lung's new "travel" BCD. This BCD is a back inflate and has only the bare necessities built in to make it the lightest one available.
  • ZOOP: Wrist or console computer that is compatible with both air and nitrox. Comes with a cable so divers can upload their dive information into their computers. Automatically activates when water touches it.
  • Micromask: One of Aqua Lungs new "extra low-volume" masks allows for greater ease when clearing. Also features "double jointed" buckles that allows for maximum adaptability and comfort.

Have a great day and please do come by and tell us of your dive adventures; ones you've had and the ones you are planning.!  Happy Diving to Everyone for Everyone at The SCUBA Shack.
